Down Melrose Path Original Pastel 9 x 12, Framed to 17 x 21, $325. Click on image for more info Date: 04/04/11 This pastel was created during the Open Air Arts 2011. It is my colorful view of an all green scene, and is actually a small driveway off Grove Street in Melrose.
A House In the Sun Original Pastel 9 x 12, Framed to 17 x 21, $325. Click on image for more info Date/Time: 2011:03:28 10:17:32 I was told this house is owned by the Muir family. I painted it from just outside the "no trespassing" sign. I really enjoy how this house sits back off the street and nestled into the old trees. I was happy with the atmosphere created in the painting, and was told by many folks that I 'restored' the old house in the process of painting it...but that's how I saw it.
Thomas Center Garden in Spring Original Pastel, 9 x 12, $225. Thomas Center Garden painted in March 2011. Date: 04/01/11 I painted this small scene on a beautiful spring day during an annual tour of historic homes in Gainesville, Florida. The event invites about a dozen artists to be painting on the grounds of the Thomas Center, which creates additional atmosphere for the visitors.
Illuminated Steps Original Pastel, 9 x 12, $225. Thomas Center Stairwell with morning light. Date: 03/22/11
Prairie Sky Original Pastel 9 x 12, Framed to 17 x 21, $225. Click on image for more info Date: 03/22/11 This pastel was done on location at Paynes Prairie in Gainesville Florida in February. I was inspired by the dramatic sky and bold colors of the dry brush. The stand of young maple trees were busting out with red winged seeds. Although the clouds appear to have a blush of pink on my monitor, they are actually pure white in the painting and hopefully appear that way on your screen. I was in a good mood and enjoyed the great company of my painting friend Lin.
Woodland Flowers Original Watercolor and pastel, 15 x 22, unframed, $350. Click image for more info. Date: 02/24/10 This painting started out as a watercolor expression. I had no reference, and just wanted to paint a fantasy landscape using very bold color. It began entirely Orange and blue. I liked the freshness of the brushwork and the unusual colors, but was never quite satisfied with the overall result. So I got out the pastels and brought it to its current stage. This painting took over a year to finally resolve into something I like.
Cedar With Morning Light Original Pastel, 9x12 framed to 17 x 21, $225. Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This pastel painting is 9 x 12, is framed and for sale at $225. I like the character of the tree, especially its movement and combination of living and dead parts. The cedar tree was painted from life on location in a cemetery, and I invented the remainder of the landscape.
Pecan Grove, Overcast Original Pastel, 9x 12 framed to 17 x 21, $225. Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This pastel painting is 9x12 inches, framed and for sale at $225. Painted on an overcast morning, I tried to capture the transition of winter to spring. The rain brings new color to the untended field and adds the first blush of life to the pecan trees, but the overcast sky subdues and quiets that color.
Hibbs Meadow Original Pastel, 9x12 framed to 16 x 20, $225. Click image for more info. Date/Time: 2009:01:21 15:32:58 This was an exercise in using pastel and is not my original composition. I used a photo from a magazine, but do not know who to credit for the photo. Speaking of photos, sorry for my lousy photo of this painting. This pastel painting is 9x12, is framed and for sale at $225.
Fantasy Bridge Original Watercolor, 11 x 15, framed to 16 x 20, $350. Click image for more info. Date/Time: 2006:03:15 14:50:41 This bridge is in a Japanese Garden in Portland Oregon. I chose to paint the scene in dramatic light and unusual color. This painting has been recognized with several awards.
Bridge in green and yellow Original Watercolor, 11 x 15, unframed, $180. Click image for more info. Date/Time: 2005:04:09 14:23:36 This is the same image as Fantasy Bridge, but I explored using green and yellow and still tried to capture some mystery or fantasy in the scene.
Approaching Green Original Watercolor, 11 x 15, framed to 16 x 20, $225. Click image for more info. Date/Time: 2007:08:16 09:37:22 This watercolor is the study I did in preparation for a large acrylic canvas. I was striving for an interesting balance between a representational approach and an expressive approach, and between traditional and modern landscape painting. Bold color was needed for the larger commissioned work due to its placement on a large wall.
Meadow With Storm Approaching Original Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 I enjoy playing with bold color. This scene reminds me of the acidic color in the Everglades when a storm is approaching. This is another in the high springs series.
Sunny Meadow Original Watercolor, 11 x 15, framed to 16 x 20, $225. Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 Part of the High Springs series, the bright color and fresh brushwork of this painting most accurately captures my feelings while at the scene.
Fall Scene Original Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This fall scene was painted in a class with Ron Ranson, while practicing his fresh and lose style. It may be questionable using the word "original" with this painting as I did paint it in class and it is similar in style to Ransons work. My memory tells me that I created the composition and chose the color palette.
Madras Walk Original Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 While most Americans will think this is a woman, it is a young male in Madras India. No Indian woman would show so much skin. I was attracted to the lithesome saunter of the young man. It was early morning and fruit and vegetable vendors were busy preparing for the day.
Bicycle Boys Original Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This street scene is from Madras India. I chose to paint this scene with earth tones to capture the dusty feeling of the street on that day. The boys are dressed in white for school. One sat on the seat while the other pedaled.
Walking the Water Buffalo Original Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225. Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This was a typical scene in my travels throughout India. Water Buffalo are used for common agricultural chores.
Baby Taj Original Watercolor, 11 x 15, unframed, $180. Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 There is a less known building called the Baby Taj, which stands across the river from the Taj Mahal in India. It is strikingly beautiful. I painted this scene of the outdoor courtyard from a photo I had taken while there.
Butterfly at the Lake Original Watercolor, 15 x 22 framed to 20 x 27, $400. Click image for more info. Yenser House Original Watercolor, 11 x 15, unframed, $180. Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This is the house of a friend who lived in the historic district in Gainesville. I won an award for this painting, the judge commenting on the loose painterly approach. The frame was later damaged when a plane crashed into the airport where the painting was hanging. I disposed of the frame but never reframed the painting.
Italian Villa2 Original Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 I painted this scene several times in different styles. This one always captured me with its simplicity and I think it gets noticed when hanging on the wall.
Oak on the Prairie Original Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This watercolor was a play with several painting elements. I used earthy watercolors to get an opaque result, avoiding the typical watercolor brightness and luminosity and yet achieving nice rich earthy color. I also played with depth of field, giving the painting both a sense of distance and a flatness simultaneously, thus making the clear statement "I am a painting". This painting won an award.
Rudbeckia Origianl Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 Still life painted from objects around the house and garden. I think this painting is lovely in its subtlety. I continue to debate about adding some dark color under the objects to set them down on the table, but I also like that it works without it.
Siesta Sunrise Origianl Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This scene was painted from the back deck of a friends condo on Siesta Key where I have enjoyed many beautiful morning displays of sunlight, fog, and color.
Waterfall Origianl Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This waterfall was painted using the Ron Ranson method learned in class. While I didnt copy his painting, the idea of it was his, so it is questionable as to my originality here.
Welcome Gate Origianl Watercolor, 11 x 15 framed to 16 x 20, $225 Click image for more info. Date: 02/14/10 This scene was in my backyard at a previous house. Simply an old gate and a pot of flowers.
Cedar in Morning Light $225. 9x12 inch pastel. click image for more info. Date: 04/01/11 This pastel is 9 x 12 inches and was painting in the morning. I fell in love with this stunted little tree the moment I saw it standing watch over an old plot in the Melrose cemetery. I didn't want to paint the cemetery, so I created a new place for the tree to live and invented a simple and romantic place. This painting is framed and for sale; $225.
Pecan Grove, Overcast $225. 9x12 inch pastel. click image for more info. Date: 04/01/11 This pastel is 9 x 12 inches. The first day of the paint out was overcast all morning and then rained in the afternoon. I stopped along the road and captured this image before the downpour. It was an interesting challenge to capture the rows of pecan trees waking up with the spring rain, and the untended fields full of color but subdued by the weather. This painting is framed and for sale; $225.
Jones Gate 9x12 Pastel, framed to 20x17, $225. Date/Time: 2010:03:14 10:47:19 This attractive old gate is on the Jones property. I perched behind the walls on a blustery day and successfully avoided the wind, and captured this image of the afternoon sun coming through the gate and casting shadow on the sidewalk. 9x12 pastel on paper, framed, $225
Artist Mesmerized, a Self-Portrait 11x14 acrylic and collage, framed in black wood, $295. Date: 04/01/11 When I stand out there in all that beauty of nature wondering how to approach getting something onto canvas, I find myself mesmerized at first. Eventually, something inside begins to develop and a direction is determined and off I go following my artistic endeavors. This odd acrylic and collage was my attempt to represent that experience. 11x14 acrylic and collage, $295
